RG Red Meat Producer Efforts to Create Beef Cattle Breeding Cluster in Malang Regency

RG Red Meat Producer Efforts to Create Beef Cattle Breeding Cluster in Malang Regency

Oleh : Humas FapetUB

The team of the Red Meat Producer research group (RG – RMP)Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) targets to form a beef cattle breeding cluster in Senggreng Village, Sumber Pucung District – Malang Regency. The plan has been launched in 2020 by cooperating with Bank Indonesia’s Malang branch.

In an effort to make this happen, the RG-RMP team accompanies the Widji Kamulyan livestock group in Senggreng Village by providing regular counseling and discussions. The material provided also varies in order to increase knowledge and insight for farmers.

The counseling conducted on Saturday (9/10/2021) carried the theme of using technology and local feed to increase the success of Artificial Insemination (AI) for beef cattle. The RG RMP team involved are Prof. Kusmartono, Prof. Hartutik, Prof. Siti Chuzaemi, Prof. Nurul Isnaini, Prof. Sri Wahyuningsih, Prof. Trinil Susilawati, Dr. Kuswati, Rizki Prafitri, Ph.D, Dr. Nanang Febrianto, Dr. Mashudi, Dr. Priyo Sugeng Winarno, Aulia Puspita Anugrayekti, M.Sc, Asri Nurul Huda, M.Sc., and Poespita Hazanah Ndaru, MP.

While acting as resource persons, among others, Prof. Kusmartono who conveyed the use of technology to increase nutritional value, Prof. Hartutik on the use of legumes for protein enhancement, Prof. Siti Chuzaemi about making cow candy. Prof. Nurul Isnaini explained the factors that influence the success of injecting marriages or IB and Prof. Sri Wahyuningsih described the factors causing the failure of IB.

And Prof. Trinil Susilawati who evaluates the results of research in Senggreng Village regarding the success of pregnancy is still low. This is due to the high blood content of limousine cows, due to broodstock (PO cattle) being crossed with limousine cattle so that 75% of the blood in the calves is limousine blood. In addition, the feed given is below standard. Both factors result in persistent corpus luteum, cystic follicles, and premature embryonic death.

According to Trinil, this is a problem that is mostly experienced by farmers in Malang Regency. She provides solutions for mating breeders with PO or Brahman cows, as well as providing additional feed, especially before and after IB is carried out. On the other hand, make forage planting movements for animal feed and feed processing.

“We hope that our efforts will become a model for beef cattle breeding groups. So that Senggreng Village becomes a beef cattle cluster as a source of beef cattle breeds in East Java as well as to improve the community’s economy,” she concluded (TS/dta)
