History
The Faculty of Animal Science was establish on 26 October 1961 which was then named the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry (FKHP), but was under the auspices of Airlangga University.
Then based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 1963 dated January 5, 1963, it was stated that the status of Universitas Brawijaya and all of its faculties was legalized as a state. Therefore, FKHP which was originally under the auspices of Universitas Airlangga was returned to Universitas Brawijaya.
Then in February 1972, the Probolinggo Marine Fisheries Department joined FKHP as a fisheries department. So that FKHP has three departments, namely animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, and fisheries majors.
However, the veterinary department rejoined Airlangga University in Surabaya from August 1972 until now. Meanwhile, the fisheries department obtained status as the Faculty of Fisheries, Universitas Brawijaya through the 1983 Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture.
So that FKHP only has one department, namely the Department of Animal Husbandry, and changed its name to the Faculty of Animal Science (FAPET), as outlined in the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 0220 / B / 1973 dated December 3, 1973.
In 1984, Faculty of Animal Science organized two departments, namely the department of livestock production and the department of nutrition and animal feed. It also has three study programs, namely the livestock reproduction and breeding study program, the livestock product technology study program, and the livestock socio-economic study program.
In mid-1995, Faculty of Animal Science opened a three-year diploma program (D3) in Animal Husbandry. It was continued with the establishment of an extension undergraduate program (S1) in the following year. With four study programs, including livestock production study program, animal nutrition and food study program, livestock product technology study program, and livestock socio-economic study program. However, the D3 and S1 extension programs were combined with the Vocational Education of Universitas Brawijaya around 2005.
In order to develop human resources, Faculty of Animal Science had the courage to form a master program (S2) in animal science which was incorporated in the postgraduate program of Universitas Brawijaya in 1999.
As time went on the Rector’s Decree in 2006 stated that the management of the monodisciplinary graduate program is organized by the respective faculties. Which means that the implementation of lectures and administration of the S2 livestock program is carried out at the Fapet. Then in the following two years, Fapet opened a doctoral program of animal science studies (S3).
The change of study program in the undergraduate program (S1) became department of the legalization in 2011. Namely, it is department of livestock production, department of nutrition and animal feed, department of livestock product technology, and department of the socio-economy of livestock.
Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral Programs of Fapet UB have received accreditation “A” from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT). As well as international certification called Asean University Network Quality Assurance (AUN QA) for Undergraduate and Masters Programs.
