Improving the Quality of People’s Livestock, UB’s DM Team Gives Training and Counseling

The Joint Servant Doctoral (DM) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) provides training and counseling to farmer groups in Senggreng Village, Malang Regency, Thursday (24/06/2021). 

The team consisting of Rizki Prafitri, S.Pt, MA, PhD (Faculty of Animal Science), Dr. Ir. Kuswati, MP, IPM, ASEAN Eng (Faculty of Animal Science), Dr. Ir. Priyo Sugeng Winarto, MA (Faculty of Animal Science), Onni Meirezaldi, S.Sos, MM (Faculty of Administration), and Drh. Herlina Pratiwi, M.Si (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) shared about animal health, administration, and group finance. 

The reason is according to Rizki Pafitri as the chief executive, group management is the spearhead in the development of livestock groups. In addition to knowledge and insight about livestock health.

According to him, regular meetings and discussions are an important part of group management to discuss problems that occur internally in a family manner, so that management conditions become healthy and open. The more complete and orderly the administration has, it will help the group in dealing with the problems it faces.

“The more a group develops, the more complex the problems faced will be, especially if the group already has a large enough income. Therefore, administrative and financial records are very important to solve the problems that occur.” said Rizki

On the other hand, the questions that were often asked by the participants were about diarrhea and constipation which often attack their livestock. Kuswati, an expert on beef cattle, believes that diarrhea in livestock is generally caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites. 

Since diarrhea is an infectious disease, it is advisable for farmers to separate sick and healthy livestock so they don’t get infected. In addition, farmers can give electrolytes to livestock to restore the condition of livestock affected by diarrhea.

This training and counseling activity is part of the collaboration between the Representative Office of Bank Indonesia Malang and Fapet UB which has been running since 2020. The targets are livestock groups in Senggreng Village, such as Widji Kamulyan, Rojo Koyo, Mekar Tani, and Sumber Duren.

On the occasion, the representative of the Bank Indonesia Malang Office, Santi was also present. He said the purpose of organizing training activities in collaboration with Fapet UB is to improve the quality of people’s livestock, especially in Senggreng Village and contribute to the country’s economy in general.
