Efforts to increase the productivity and genetic quality of livestock, one of which is through artificial insemination (IB). Namely the technique of inserting sperm (semen) that has been processed into the genital canal of female livestock using a special device called an insemination gun.

The advantages of the IB method include regulating the distance of birth of livestock, preventing inbreeding, and sperm can be stored for a long time and can be used even though the male has died.

This IB topic was applied by a lecturer at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) to the SAE Pujon Milk Cooperative livestock group, Pandesari Village – Malang Regency through a Doctoral Service activity. In this activity, they also involved five students of the Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) who took part in the Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T) program.

The team consisted of Dr. Ir. Hermanto, MP (Fapet) as chairman, consisting of Dr. Nanang Febrianto, S.Pt. MP (Fapet), Aulia Puspita Anugra Yekti, S.Pt. MP. M.Sc (Fapet), Dr. Ir. Ary Mustofa Ahmad, MP (Faculty of Agricultural Technology), and Onni Meirezaldi, S.sos. MM (Faculty of Administrative Sciences).

To increase the chances of success, Hermanto et al. will implement double-dose IB technology. That is in one IB process, using two straws with a greater number of spermatozoa. For the optimal result, the cement used comes from superior males and goes through a quality test process.

However, because cattle are currently being hit by hoof and mouth disease (FMD), the team is focusing on creating a resilient village for FMD. With the implementation of biosecurity cages equipped with the distribution of disinfectant sprayers and other biosecurity tools as well as vaccination evaluation (data on the condition of livestock after vaccination, mortality, and recovery).

Then they provide counseling on the signs of estrus or lust in livestock so that they are on time when doing IB to increase the potential for gardening. As well as the distribution of cement to the sae Pujon milk cooperative livestock group. (dta)
