UB Serving Doctoral Team Gives Counseling on Evaluation of Cattle Pregnancy in Permanu Village, Malang Regency

Permanu Village, located in Pakisaji District, Malang Regency, is a dairy farmer. However, it has problems with pregnancy failure and delayed lust. Thus causing losses for breeders who still have to pay for feed and maintenance.

Knowing this problem, the lecturers of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) who are members of the Doctor of Servant (DM) took the initiative to provide solutions through counseling. The team chaired by Rizki Prafitri, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Animal Science conducted a pregnancy evaluation, Wednesday (19/7/2023). He with Prof. Trinil Susilawati (Faculty of Animal Science ),Dr. Kuswati (Faculty of Animal Science ),Dr. Nanang Febrianto (Faculty of Animal Science ), Doni Herviyanto, M.Pt.(Faculty of Animal Science ), and Oni Meirezaldi, M.M (Faculty of Administrative Science). As well as involving students from Fapet.

“This valuation is very important to analyze the causes of failed pregnancy in cattle. If the cattle fail to become pregnant in one heat cycle, the material loss for the breeder is estimated at 3 million for feed and maintenance costs. Rizky said

MeanwhileProf. Trinil acts as livestock reproduction expert, she said that the reproductive efficiency of cattle can give birth once a year with a gestation period of about 9 months and 10 days. Then it takes time to recover to get pregnant again for a maximum of 3 months. While the reproductive period of sheep is three times in two years and each birth produces two cempe (baby lambs).

“The characteristics of livestock lust that must be considered are 4A (Aboh, brother, anget, and arep), mucus discharge, and the animal looks restless. If you see these signs, the breeder must immediately report to the inseminator to inject semen (sperm) in less than 24 hours in female livestock.” Trinil explained

Another problem experienced by heifers is the delay in lust even though they are entering the productive phase. Trinil said bSeveral things may be the cause, namely the nutritional content of the feed has not met the needs and the presence of cattle ovary abnormalities.

“This ovarian abnormality can be examined by a vet or inseminator. So that 2 times injection of vitamins A, D, E, and PMSG or the FSH hormone will be carried out to accelerate the occurrence of lust. she concluded (tim/dta)
