A total of 5120 chickens ready to lay eggs (pullet) will be brought by the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) to the closed house cage, Tuesday (4/10/2022). The arrival of this pullet is the second period after the cage rest period after harvest. The pullet that was brought in was 17 weeks old.
According to the poultry expert lecturer at Fapet UB, Dr. Dyah Lestari, chickens can lay eggs at the age of 18-20 weeks, in one production period (laying eggs) the duration is 24.7 hours from the previous production. Dyah said that to produce optimal quality and quantity of eggs at peak production, adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is required.
Before entering the pullets into the cage, a prayer meeting was held as well as an application for permission to local residents, Monday (3/10/2022). Located in the meeting room of the Sumber Sekar – Dau field laboratory, the event was attended by representatives of Fapet UB, representatives of PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia (CPI), and residents of Karangmloko.
On that occasion, Prof. Suyadi as the Dean explained that this closed house cage implemented a teaching farm system. This means that in its development efforts, Fapet cooperates with CPI, where the cage is used for practicum, research and media for developing poultry business insights for lecturers and students.
“This closed house cage is a grant from PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, whose function is as a means of supporting teaching and learning activities for both students and lecturers. Because learning will be easier to digest if you directly apply theory in the field.” said Suyadi (dta)
