PKH Directorate General Staff Wins Doctor of Animal Science Degree at Faculty of Animal Science UB

Ir. Roy Malindo, S.Pt., M.Si.,IPM., staff of the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture (Ditjen PKH) as well as a student of the Doctoral Program in Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) was declared passed after taking the final dissertation exam, Friday ( 26/5/2023). His research entitled “System Dynamics Modeling of Sustained Feed Provision at the Bali Cattle Breeding Center” led him to obtain a Doctoral degree (Dr.). The research was compiled with promoters consisting of Prof. Siti Chuzaemi (Fapet UB), Prof. Osfar Sjofjan (Fapet UB), Prof. Anuraga Jayanegara (Fapet IPB).

According to Roy, the demand for beef as an ingredient for consumption of animal protein is increasing day by day. So the Indonesian government needs to carry out sustainable development of local beef cattle, taking into account the quality and availability of seeds. Besides that, it also requires quality feed so that livestock can grow and develop optimally. Because the quality, quantity and adequacy of nutrition affect the productivity of beef cattle.

“The feeding system is an indicator in the livestock production system to interpret actual conditions. These indicators can help solve problems and predict future conditions. Therefore To analyze livestock production policies, a system dynamics method is needed.said Roy

The research was conducted March – May 2022 at the Denpasar Animal Feed Superior Cattle Breeding Center (BPTU-HPT). Based on the results of data processing, it can be concluded that supply of feed for the 2019-2021 period has not met the needs for dry matter, protein and energy. The policy analysis shows that the combination of interventions between increasing HPT production, reducing the cattle population, and reducing concentrate supplementation produces the highest supply scenario in 2029.
