Lecturers of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) who are members of the team Red Meat Producer Research Group do community service in Saronggi District – Sumenep Regency, Thursday (25/10/ 2021). They consist of Prof. Kusmartono, Dr. Mashudi, Asri Nurul Huda, M.Sc., Poespitasari Hazanah Ndaru, MP, and Dr. Siti Nurul Kamaliyah.
The location was chosen because Saronggi District is one of the centers of Madura cattle, and there is a “Makmur Jaya” breeder group. However, they have problems providing feed during the dry season in terms of quality and quantity. The supply of animal feed still relies on the availability of local vegetation, such as field grass and agricultural wastes which are generally of low quality.
According to Dr. Mashudi, the long-term solution to overcome these problems is to apply feed processing technology. Precisely the “Complete Feed” technology is based on locally available feed ingredients, including rice straw, corn bran, and tofu dregs.
Meanwhile, Prof. Kusmartono explained that complete feed technology is the engineering of mixing low-quality fiber source feed with concentrate into high-quality feed. Then it can be given to livestock as a single feed without the addition of any supplements.
“The application of this technology is expected to be able to increase livestock productivity so that the economy of farmers can increase,” said Kusmartono.
The materials given to farmers include an introduction to animal feed ingredients, ration formulations, and the manufacture of complete feed or TMR. (dta)
