Smart Cage for Broiler : Cage Solution in Limited Land

Students of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) make innovations in using limited land as a place for broiler cultivation. The work by Firmansyah Budi Pratama, Muhammad Izzul Atfhal, and Didik Bagus Saputra was named “Smart Cage for Broiler”.

Namely, a broiler chicken coop made in stages, with a width of 1 meter, a length of 20 meters, and a height of 60 cm. So that at the time of maintenance, it can accommodate a large number of chicken populations on limited land.

According to Firmansyah, poultry farming, especially broilers, is currently a livestock commodity that is in demand to be developed. Because the harvest period is short and the prospects are promising.

However, when large farms have used large land areas, far from residential areas with large cage capacities, small farmers are still constrained by limited land. Whereas in the livestock system, the main thing that must be considered is the housing system.

Smart Cage for Broiler is made for small farmers who have limited land. The cage is designed to increase the broiler population in limited land, supported by automatic facilities to provide effective and efficient solutions in broiler farming, especially for small-scale farmers.

The cage made by the team members of the Student Creativity Program in the field of Copyright (PKM – KC) is equipped with a driving device conveyor installed under the cage base and rotates every eight hours. The function of the conveyor is to collect chicken excreta which will then move to a temporary shelter. This makes it easier for farmers to bring excreta out of the cage and minimizes ammonia pollution.

“When compared to the cage system closed house, Smart Cage for Broilers is no less promising. A closed house cage requires a cage measuring 10 meters long and 5 meters wide with 500 individuals. Whereas in Smart Cage for Broilers, the cage area is minimal with a width of 1 meter, a length of 10 meters and can accommodate a population of 1500 chickens.” clear Word (dta)
