The type of dairy cattle kept in Indonesia is a cross between a Holstein Friesian cow from the Netherlands and a local Javanese cattle called the Holstein friesian breed (PHF). Its maintenance is concentrated in highland areas such as Pujon, Ngantang, Batu Districts, which have cool temperatures, suitable for milk production and reproduction. However, the shift from the City of Milk to the City of Tourism in Batu and Pujon has become a threat to existence.
So that proper management planning is needed in order to be able to raise livestock in a sustainable manner. Planned management can be realized through recording (recording) regarding livestock production and reproduction.
According to the professor of the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), Prof. Sucik Maylinda, the benefits of recording are for selecting seeds, managing feed, and controlling disease. However, many farmers think that the recording program is troublesome, due to the lack of knowledge and skills of farmers in terms of measurement and recording. In addition, the infrastructure, equipment, and system for regulating the recording mechanism are inadequate.
Against this background, Prof. Sucik and UB Lecturers conducted counseling and training on the SMS gateway recording system. Namely a dairy cattle production recording system that combines data collection and tabulation, then sending data via SMS and sending it to a data center connected to data analysis software.
The team involved included Hari Dwi Utami, Ph.D., (Faculty of Animal Husbandry), Dr. Raden Arief Setyawan (Faculty of Engineering), and Dr. Sarwono (Faculty of Linguistics). As well as involving four undergraduate students (S1) and one Masters student (S2) from Faculty of Animal Husbandry. This activity, which was carried out from February to June 2023, was carried out toAgri Lestari breeder group in Maron Sebaluh Hamlet Rt 29 Rw 06, Jurangrejo, Pandesari, Pujon District, Malang Regency.
Dr. Raden Arief explained that the SMS Gateway recording system can be used for measuring volume or body weight, milk production, recording the date of the cow’s mating month, and performance.
“The work of measuring and recording can be replaced by loggers (inseminators or animal paramedics). Measurements can be made manually (with a measuring device) or with a milking machine where the volume is automatically known.” he said (dta)
