Aligning the Science of Fapet Lecturers Conduct Institutional Visits to BET Cipelang

The Independent Learning Campus Independent Program (MBKM) is not only a bridge for students to keep abreast of scientific developments. But it also requires teaching staff to continue to update knowledge and technology that continues to grow.

Likewise, lecturers from the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) who study embryo transfer as a result of science and technology development. In order to find out the latest knowledge about livestock reproduction, they visited the Cipelang Livestock Embryo Center (BET), Wednesday (10/5/2023). The team involved included Rizki Prafitri, Ph.D., Eko Nugroho, Ph.D., Dr. Nanang Febrianto, and Puji Akhiroh, M.Sc.

Rizki et al held active discussions related to scientific developments as well as visiting students who had done MBKM there. Because five students of Faculty of Animal Husbandry UB are doing an MBKM internship based on agreed cooperation. Namely, BET Cipelang accepts Fapet UB students fordoField Work Practice, MBKM internship, and final research (thesis).

“It is hoped that the collaboration between BET and Fapet will continue and get closer. Where the scope of cooperation is not only in the realm of apprenticeships and student theses, but related to increasing the competence of lecturers in the field of reproduction.” said Rizki who currently serves as plt. BET Cipelang is an institution that has the task of carrying out embryo production, embryo transfer, cooperation, technical guidance or apprenticeship and CSR. According to Dr. Oloan Parlindungan, MP (Veterinary Medical Department), in meeting the production of BET embryos, has collaborated with the Department and Industry to market embryos from BET. The embryo transfer process will be supervised by officers who have the competency/license as embryo transfer workers. The success rate of embryo transfer is 30%.

BET has dozens of cows that are used as oocyte donors. Sri Wahyuni ​​Siswanti, S.Pt., M.Sc (Sub Coordinator of Information and Results Dissemination) explained that the cows at BET are managed well with forage provided in the BET area with an area of ​​52 Ha. The types of cattle kept at BET include Belgian Blue, Brahman, Limosin, Simental, Angus, etc. (pja/dta)
