Doctoral Program in Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) held an open dissertation examination on behalf of Ir. Indyah Aryani, MM., Thursday (5/1/2022). Taking place in the main courtroom on the 6th floor of Gd.V, the exam for the Head of the Livestock Service Office of East Java Province was led by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. M. Halim Natsir.

Indyah carried out a research entitled “Reproductive Performance and Production of Madura Cattle in the Seed Source Area of Pamekasan Regency” which led to her obtaining a Doctoral degree (Dr.). The research was compiled with the supervising commission including Prof. Suyadi, Prof. Hartuti, and Dr. Kuswati. While the examining commission consisted of Prof. Gatot Ciptadi, Prof. Sri Wahjuningsih, and Dr. Mashudi.

She believes efforts to support the achievement of self-sufficiency in meat in Indonesia is to develop the potential of local cattle by increasing production. One of the potential livestock is Madura cattle because it has a variety of characteristics and genetic advantages.

Currently the source of Madura cattle breeds is in the Pamekasan Regency area, but the irony is that livestock productivity there is not optimal due to reproductive disorders in female livestock. So research is needed to evaluate the reproductive performance and production of broodstock. The final results of the research can be used as input as a basis for making government policies in improving management.

The research was conducted in the PAPABARU area (Pakong, Pasean, Batumarmar and Waru Subdistricts), Pamekasan Regency to observe the non-return rate (NRR), Service per Conception (S/C), and Conception Rate (CR), as well as feed proximate analysis. Based on the results of the study, Indyah provided suggestions for improving the maintenance management and management of productive female Madura cattle through improved feed (flushing), namely 2 months before birth and 2 months after birth. The hope is to reduce the calf mortality rate, so that the natural value increases and the calf crop increases every year. (dta)
