An internship scholarship program for the beef cattle industry in Australia called the NTCA Indonesia-Australia Pastoral Program (NIAPP) was held again. The implementation of the collaboration between the Indonesian Association of Animal Husbandry Scholars (ISPI) and the Australian breeder organization, NTCA (Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association) is an effort to provide international knowledge and insights in the field of animal husbandry for Indonesian livestock students.
Department of international cooperation affairs, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB),International Relations Office (IRO) facilitates students who wish to take part in the program. Through a sharing event with alumni of the NIAPP program, Friday (16/6/2023) which took place in a hybrid way.
The event was opened by the IRO secretary, Dr. Irida Novianti said the program is designed to provide practical, hands-on learning,build and expand relationships, and the cultural exchange of the beef cattle industry between Indonesia and Northern Australia.
While the program alumni who attended were Muchamad Muchlas, S.Pt., M.Pt (2012 alumni)., and Justian Ahmad, S.Pt. (2019 alumni). Justian shared his six-week internship experience at the Victoria river downs station. The activities carried out include practical training such as horse riding, ATV riding, handling cows, first aid for livestock, and beef cattle management.
“It was an extraordinary experience, I have never had it in Indonesia let alone ride a horse to herd cows.” said Justin
The requirements for participating in the NIAPP program are (1) Fapet students at least in the third semester, (2) able to speak English orally and in writing as evidenced by submitting a minimum TOEFL score of 450, (3) experience in the field of beef cattle, (4) physically, mentally healthy, and mentally strong, (5) wrote an essay about “My campus activity and Indonesia Beef Cattle Industry”, (6) made a video about “Why me and What Can I do for Indonesian Cattle Industry”.
