Reproductive Management of Dairy Cattle After the FMD Outbreak

The majority of the focus of farmers after the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) that infected split hooves in mid-2022 was to restore livestock’s appetite by improving feed quality. However, not many people know that reproduction plays an important role in determining livestock productivity. Reproduction is one of the main factors in a dairy farming business to determine the profit and loss of the business. So that the regulation of reproduction must be managed and considered seriously.

This was revealed by a lecturer in livestock reproduction at the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), Prof. Suyadi. He is with Dr. Tri Eko Susilorini, Wike Andre Septian, M.Sc., Muhammad Pramujo, M.Sc., and Poppy Satya Puspita, M.Sc. conducted socialization on reproductive management of dairy cattle after the FMD outbreak to farmers in Wonosari Village, Kasembon District, Malang Regency. 

In this activity they included four undergraduate (S1) students, namely Guruh Prasetyo, Ibnu Dwi Ramadhani, Yohanes Anugerah, Ilham Firdaus, and Helmi Rabbani. Suyadi described the problems experienced by farmers in Wonosari Village, including a lack of knowledge, understanding, and skills regarding reproductive management during the FMD outbreak. As well as minimal awareness and for recording reproductions that can be used as a basis for increasing reproductive efficiency.
