Pendowo Jati Mulyo Gunung Kawi Service Cooperative Wonosari District is a group of goats fostered by the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB). The goat livestock being developed is the etawa breed (PE), which is a cross between an etawa goat and a kacang goat (Indonesian local goat). These livestock produce milk and meat with high productivity when properly maintained and managed. However, in Wonosari farmers are more focused on milk production because market demand is increasing.

Observing this opportunity, UB Faculty of Animal Husbandry lecturers are planning to form a goat’s milk village there. The plan was initiated by Puji Akhiroh, M.Sc. (chairman), with members Prof. Gatot Ciptadi, Dr. Agus Budiarto, Adelina Ari Hemiyanti, MP, Ria Dewi Andriani, MSc., and Ardyah Irsanti R. Putri. M.Sc. As well as undergraduate students in the animal husbandry program, consisting of Salsa Oktha Melani, Nanda Mulya Karolina G., Husna Handayani Puspita Sari, Muhammad Fadhil Ramadhani, Hanifudin Nur Ramadhan, Alan Erico Dwi Abintoro, and Farhan Athallah Gunawan.

The preparation steps for the realization of the dairy village are carried out with assistance and counseling on livestock production, milk quality, milk production, record management, and milk marketing. As well as conducting Forum Group Discussions with breeders regarding the problems faced by breeders.

Puji explained the benefits of goat’s milk, including maintaining bone health, preventing diabetes, improving digestion, and improving respiratory tract diseases. Goat milk is a good source of amino acids and nutrients, which can be consumed by people with lactose intolerance. Goat’s milk is easier to digest than cow’s milk because it has a smaller and more homogeneous fat size.

“The myriad benefits of goat’s milk is what makes market demand increase and opens up prospects for the dairy goat farm.” said Puji

“We hope that through this activity we can create a goat milk village in Wonosari so that we can supply local goat milk, prosper the farmer’s economy, as well as introduce the Wonosari area to the wider community.” she continued (dta)
