Malang, July 1, 2024 – Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya has once again initiated its Community Service Program (KKN or PKM) in Magetan Regency, two years after the successful execution of a similar program at the same location. The launch was officiated by the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya, Prof. Widodo, accompanied by the Vice-Rector, other university leaders, and the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Prof. M. Halim, along with the implementation team at the university’s rectorate field.
During his speech, the Program Director, Eko Nugroho, Ph.D., reported that the KKN or PKM activities are attended by 567 students from the Faculty of Animal Science, divided into 40 teams of 14 students each. These teams will later be distributed across 40 villages in five sub-districts of Magetan Regency.
Themed “Implementation of Appropriate Technology Towards Independent Livestock Villages,” the program aims to encourage local farmers in Magetan to maximize their farming potential.
Prof. M. Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, expressed his hope that the success of the 2022 KKN program could be replicated this year, marking the second implementation in Magetan Regency.
In his address, Rector UB Prof. Widodo offered advice and guidance for the execution of the KKN or PKM, emphasizing the students’ ability to integrate with the local community, adhere to prevailing norms, and maintain proper conduct. He inspired the young Generation Z to bring fresh ideas that implement animal science knowledge for the predominantly farming community of Magetan Regency.
The event concluded with the symbolic placement of cowboy hats on two student representatives by Prof. Widodo, officially marking the dispatch of the PKM to Magetan Regency. This program is expected not only to assist students in analyzing and solving local issues but also to foster the development of the livestock sector in rural areas, particularly in Magetan Regency. mt
