Jersey Cattle Introduction and Organic Fertilizer Processing Training in Ngantang with FAPET UB

In an effort to promote sustainable farming practices, Universitas Brawijaya, through its “Doctoral Service” program, organized a training and outreach event at Sumber Marmur Cooperative, Sumbergadung Hamlet, Sumberagung Village, Ngantang Subdistrict. The event aimed to introduce local farmers to Jersey cattle and techniques for creating and processing organic fertilizer.

The one-day training was attended by 30 farmers who are members of the KUD Sumber Makmur Ngantang. It featured instructional and practical sessions led by Prof. Trinil Susilawati and Syahrul Kurniawan, Ph.D. Dr. Nanang Febrianto and Dr. Aulia Puspita Anugra Yekti also provided guidance as part of the “Doctoral Service” team.

Participants were taught about the genetic advantages of Jersey cattle, known for their high production and quality milk, as well as techniques for making organic fertilizer from livestock waste used as biogas. The primary goals are to achieve self-sustaining breeding practices and enhance farmers’ skills in producing organic fertilizer. This fertilizer is expected to improve soil quality and support sustainable organic farming.

This initiative is hoped to significantly support innovation and sustainability in the livestock and agriculture sectors in the Ngantang area, as well as provide positive impacts on the welfare and capacity development of local farmers. mt
