Before the Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD) epidemic attacked livestock, Gangsiran Puthuk Village, District. Junrejo, Batu City is the center of dairy cattle. However, the cattle population is decreasing due to the death of cattle infected with FMD.
The impact is material losses and the interest of farmers to return to the world of livestock has decreased. Because if they restart the cattle business, farmers have to dig deep into their pockets as initial capital, most of which is needed to buy feed.
Responding to this, a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) conducted counseling activities and granted lamtoro plant seeds to the livestock group “Sumber Harapan 3”, Saturday (29/10/2022). The team that is involved in community service activities is chaired by Prof. Ifar Subagiyo, consisting of Prof. Hendrawan, Dr. Hermanto, Dr. Herni Sudarwati, Dr. Siti Nurul Kamaliyah, Hanief Eko Sulistyo, MP, and Artharini Irsyammawati, MP
According to Ifar, lamtoro plants contain high nutrients with a dry protein value (PK) of more than 20%. This figure is able to fill the nutritional needs due to the provision of low quality feed. If the adequacy of livestock nutrition is met, it can increase productivity, thereby increasing the cattle population.
“The purpose of this activity is to cultivate dairy farmers who can provide cheap protein feed by utilizing maximum land.” said Ifar
“We will accompany the livestock group gentlemen from care to the lamtoro harvesting process. The hope is that this group will become a local protein center that supports increased livestock production.” continued (dta)
