On March 9th, 2024, the Faculty of Animal Science at Brawijaya University (Fapet UB) organized a guest lecture on the intriguing topic, “Building Millennial Entrepreneurship by Leveraging New Business Opportunities in the Era of 4.0 and Society 5.0.” The event was graced by a distinguished speaker, Dr. Ir. H. Audy Joinaldy, the Vice Governor of West Sumatra and a lecturer at the IPB Business School and the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM. Dr. Audy, also the Chairman of the Association of Engineers and Livestock Scholars of Indonesia (ISPI), imparted valuable insights to the students.

During the lecture, which lasted for more than 2 hours, Dr. Audy shared inspiring experiences from his career journey, starting from being an academic in the field of animal science to successfully venturing into livestock entrepreneurship in his hometown. He also introduced his book titled “Poultry Preneur: Success in the Era of 4.0 and New Normal,” providing practical guidance for livestock entrepreneurs to navigate challenges and seize opportunities in the digital era and amidst new behavioral norms.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Halim Natsir, S.Pt., MP., IPM., ASEAN Eng., the Dean of Fapet UB, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between academia and industry practitioners in supporting the development of the livestock sector. Meanwhile, Ir. Rizki Prafitri, S.Pt., M.A., Ph.D., the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of Fapet UB, acted as the event moderator, facilitating smooth discussions.

A highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Fapet UB and ISPI, encompassing various initiatives ranging from collaborative research and community service programs to enhancing the competencies of livestock human resources. This step is crucial in strengthening synergy between the academic and livestock industry domains.

The scope of this Memorandum of Understanding includes:

  1. Collaboration in implementing research and community service programs to support the development goals of animal husbandry in East Java Province.
  2. Enhancement and development of livestock human resources competencies in the professional work sphere.
  3. Strategic collaboration in technical and non-technical activities in livestock development.
  4. Synergy in promoting institutions or organizations to the general public.
  5. Other agreed-upon activities by the parties involved.

The event concluded with the presentation of Dr. Audy Joinaldy’s book as a prize to several outstanding students. This entire activity not only provided new knowledge but also motivated students to take tangible steps in developing entrepreneurship in the field of animal science. Hopefully, the collaboration between Fapet UB and ISPI will significantly contribute to the advancement of the livestock sector in Indonesia. (MT)
