PT Ajinomoto Indonesia has just reaffirmed its commitment to livestock feed innovation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya. This collaboration aims to explore the potential of the MSG co-product, Fermented Mother Liquor (FML), as a ruminant feed ingredient. FML, a dark brownish liquid with a crude protein content of over 20%, can be utilized as livestock feed.

This collaborative program is scheduled to run for three years, from 2023 to 2025, and includes various stages of research, from evaluating the use of FML in silage production to biological testing on ruminant livestock. The initial phase of the research has been successfully conducted during the 2023-2024 period, focusing on the use of FML in elephant grass and corn stover silage. These initial results will serve as a basis for the biological testing phase, which is planned to take place from June 2024 to February 2025.

The research is led by Prof. Ifar Subagiyo, along with a team consisting of four faculty members and one postgraduate student: Dr. Hermanto, Dr. Asri Nurul Huda, Rini Dwi Wahyuni, M.Sc., and Rizka Muizzu Aprilia, MPt. This partnership is expected not only to enhance the efficiency of using industrial by-products but also to provide new references for using FML as livestock feed, promising a sustainable alternative for the livestock industry.
