Guest Lecture on Animal Husbandry Industry Systems Discussing Closed House Cages Engineering

A closed cage system or closed house is a consideration for chicken farmers in Indonesia. According to the professor of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), Prof. M. Halim Natsir, closed house cages can increase productivity, because they can regulate the total density of chickens so that the growth conditions are evenly distributed while the numbers and mortality are low. In addition, it is easier to control biosecurity and room temperature to minimize stress on chickens.

“However, the construction of the cage requires high skills and extensive technical knowledge in addition to large investment costs.” he said

Therefore, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry UP provides supply knowledge to students regarding the engineering of the construction of this cage through a guest lecture with practitioners, Friday (17/3/2023). He said to get optimal yields, cages with temperature and humidity are needed according to the age of the chickens, so closed houses are a solution for breeders. The success of chicken farming does not only depend on the cage system but also on the selection of good seeds, animal feed formulation, and livestock rearing management.

Lecture participants are sixth semester students who take the Livestock Industrial Systems course.System lectures conducted are collaborative learning between subject lecturers and practitioner lecturers. Namely one implementation of the Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM). The aim is to give students insight into the aspects and mechanization of supporting technology in companies.
