Head of the Livestock Service Office of East Java Province (East Java), Dr. Ir. Indyah Aryani, M.M. became a guest lecture speaker at the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), Thursday (31/8/2023). Taking place in the Auditorium on the 8th floor, the activity was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The theme raised is the problem of ruminant livestock in East Java and the opportunities to become resilient farms after the foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak. Based on statistical data from the East Java Animal Husbandry Service, it shows that East Java Province is a national livestock warehouse which dominates up to 51%.

However, the FMD outbreak that attacked cattle in 2022 caused many deaths. So that it has an impact on the production of meat, milk, and the economy. The regions in East Java that contributed the most records for suspected PMK were Lumajang, Probolinggo, and Malang districts.

Indyah said one of the efforts made by the East Java Animal Husbandry Service to revive cattle farming was collaboration with universities and the government. Through discussion and action in finding solutions to the impact of PMK on the supply chain.

“The university we cooperate with is UB, while the partnership between the Indonesian government and the Australian government is PRISMA which is chaired by Prof. Hendrawan, Lecturer of the Faculty of Animal Science UB.” explained Indya (dta)
