One of the global problems in animal husbandry is environmental pollution due to fecal waste cow because some farmers have not been able to recycle waste properly.
If waste management is carried out properly, it can have a positive impact on energy availability. Considering that an animal can produce more than 10 kg of manure which has the potential to be used as an alternative energy source (biogas). The utilization of biogas can reduce the use of fuel oil (BBM) and electricity.
So that the methane gas content in cow feces becomes one of the renewable energy sources to realize the Sustainable Development Goals. Following the seventh point regarding the resilience of environmentally friendly renewable energy.
Observing these problems, students from the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) and their supervisor, Mulia Winirsya Apriliyani, S.Pt., MP created an IoT-based innovative cage application called System Several Massage Macrocontroller Technology or SI SEMMUT for short.
Ahmad Fahrudin Husen, Rhobithotus Mufidah, Novia Putri Wardani, Aura Alya Rahma, Triyana Sinta Dewi adopts a model system closed house for chickens. Where to create biological safety (minimizing contact with other organisms) with good ventilation settings, thereby reducing stress on livestock.
“The energy used is renewable energy from methane gas produced by cow dung waste. While the housing system can be monitored fromapplication thesmartphone SI SEMMUTto make it easier to check the condition of livestock and work from the cage system.” explained Fahrudin.
Through this innovation, they won a silver medal in the World Youth Invention and Innovation Award 2021(WYIIA) event, which was held by the International Youth Invention and Innovation Award in collaboration with Yogyakarta State University, Wednesday-Saturday (18-21/08/2021).
The competition is conducted online by raising the fields of mathematics, technology, environment, social sciences, education and physics. WYIIA 2021 participants come from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Korea, and Indonesia. (afh/dta)
