Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) cooperates with the Animal Husbandry Service of East Java Province through the Singosari Livestock Production and Forage Production Unit (UPT PT HMT). The agreement that will be made is to develop a standard for goat breeds at the UPT Goat Development, Singosari.
The team involved is Prof. Suyadi (Expert of Animal Reproduction and Molecular Genetics), Dr. Tri Eko Susilorini (Dairy Livestock Expert), Dr. Kuswati (Slaughter Cattle Expert), Dr. Irida Noviati, Wike Andre Septian, M.Si (ruminant livestock management expert) and Dr. Ahmad Furqon (Expert Breeding and Molecular Genetics).
Head of UPT Goat Development, Ir. Abd Rokhim revealed that the problems faced were the development of seeds to making decisions that were fast and accurate. “Until now, the existing data has been taken from manual recording of various activities such as crossbreeding systems, body conformation data, feed orders, feed management, housing, growth data, livestock qualification grading, breeding data, reproduction data and other data. The data is recorded on a sheet of paper or entered in an excel document, so it cannot provide information yet. Data on milk production from mothers has also not been well documented.” explained
Prof. Suyadi as the team leader said that the problem was data management. He offered an idea to create an application system for digital-based breeding and development management programs known as “digital smart farming”.
“In principle, this application system is the application of IoT (Internet of Thing) technology. The technology developed is based on an application on Android that will summarize all field data and all goat farm management data. With an Android base, field technical personnel can enter data directly during observation, weighing, measurement and inspection.” said Suyadi
. On the other hand, the advantage of the system is that the leadership and management team can directly control the development of their farms by using their cellphones at any time. So that decisions can be taken anytime and anywhere accurately.
As a reproduction and breeding expert, Suyadi also suggested that the Singosari Goat Livestock UPT, which has a population of more than 400 individuals, should start determining a clear breeding direction. So that there will be target breeds that will be produced, such as the dairy type based on the genetics of the Senduro goat (clean white in color), and the beef type goat based on the genetics of the Boer Goat and the Galigesing PE Goat.
