Fapet UB Closed House Cages Back to Operation 

The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) has a closed house cage for laying hens with a capacity of 5120 tails. The cage, which is located to the north of the Sumber Sekar field laboratory, is a grant from PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, Tbk (CPI).

After going through a period of rest in the cage after harvesting, now Fapet UB again brings in chickens ready to lay eggs or called pullets, Tuesday (4/10/2022). Pullet numbered 5120 tails with the age of 17 weeks. According to the poultry expert lecturer at Fapet UB, Dr. Dyah Lestari, chickens can lay eggs at the age of 18-20 weeks. In one production period (laying eggs) the duration is 24.7 hours from the previous production. 

Meanwhile, Prof. Suyadi as the Dean explained that this closed house cage implemented a teaching farm system. This means that in its development efforts, Fapet cooperates with CPI, where the cage is used for practicum, research and media for developing poultry business insights for lecturers and students.

“The function of the field laboratory is a means of supporting teaching and learning activities for both students and lecturers. Because learning will be easier to digest if you directly apply the theory in the field. Besides supporting the research of lecturers and students.” said Suyadi (dta)
