Monthly Study of KTI KIM Clinic Discusses Animal Welfare Implementation on Poultry Farms

One of the work programs of a science-based student activity unit called the Student Scientific Group (KIM) is to conduct a study of scientific papers. This monthly routine is intended for all members of KIM and students of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB).

The goal is to provide ideas in the field of animal science that can be used as material for participating in writing competitions and student creativity programs (PKM). So that students updated about the latest livestock conditions and technology and have a picture that is intended as the object of the paper.

This KTI monthly study invites a poultry expert from Fapet UB, namely Dr. Dyah Lestari, S.Pt., MP, Sunday (17/4/2022). He conveyed the perspective of implementing animal welfare for poultry in the adaptation of the SDGs for food security. According to him, poultry, especially chicken, are animal products that are in demand in the market. Besides the delicious taste of the meat, the price is also quite affordable.

However, animal welfare in poultry has not been widely applied by smallholder farmers. For example, a vehicle that transports poultry to be taken to the slaughterhouse is not in accordance with animal welfare. This causes livestock stress, heat, or even cold. Whereas cattle to be slaughtered must be stress free.
