Faculty of Animal Science Prepares Students to Compete in Global Competitions Through MBKM Internships

The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) launched the Freedom to Learn Campus Merdeka (MBKM) policy in 2020. The aim is to prepare a generation that is able to deal with developments in science and technology. One of the MBKM programs is an internship for one semester or six months.This is because so far the application of short-term internships for students (between 1-3 months) is not enough to provide industry experience and competence. As a result students are not ready to enter the world of work because of the lack of work experience in the real industry/professional world.

The Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), in answering this problem, held an MKBM internship program. Namely an internship program that students can do in industry for six months which is recognized as equivalent to 20 credits. So that university graduates become human resources who have expertise and skills, and are ready to compete in global competition.

Activities intended for fifth semester students and above have been carried out since the TA. 2020/2021 by cooperating with several universities and companies and the livestock industry. This year there are 12 affiliated apprentice partners, including PT. Cibadak Indah Sari Farm, PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia East Java, PT. Kembang Joyo Sriwijaya, PT. Tajimaku, Entrepreneurship – KAFAPET UB, Cipelang Livestock Embryo Center, PT. Perumda Tunas, PT. Sawo Jaya Animal Husbandry, PT. CPI Breeding Sumatra, PT. Cianjur Arta Makmur, PT. Prima Widodo Makmur, PT. Gift of Nature Sentosa Eternal (KASA).

The benefits of participating in this program are knowing and being directly involved in work practice activities in companies, providing work experience that is in accordance with competency achievements, getting thesis research topics as well as field supervisors. This was revealed by Rizki Prafitri, Ph.D. as the chairman of MBKM Fapet UB in the MBKM socialization event, Wednesday (8/2/2023).

The implementation of the activity starts at the end of February until the end of June 2023. Meanwhile, registration starts on 2-12 February 2023. Participants who register will take part in a series of selections and interviews by the MBKM team. (dta)
