Fapet Blood Care as a Form of Implementation of Higher Education’s Tri Dharma

 The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Brawijaya (FKG UB) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) held a blood drive, Thursday (23/2/2023). The activity which was carried out at the Widyaloka Building on the 2nd floor was titled “Fapet Blood Care”.

The target of the activity is the staff of Fapet, FKG, and the general public. Therefore this event is a form of implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, at the point of community service. Initially, the committee only targeted 30 participants, but applicants for potential donors reached 80 people. But only 52 according to the health classification of blood donors. Donors who pass will get free milk from the committee as a form of appreciation.

Based on halodoc.com, milk contains riboflavin or vitamin B2 which is an important component for producing red blood cells. Riboflavin will help the body convert carbohydrates into energy. So that it can restore strength and energy after the donor.

Meanwhile general requirements that must be met before donating blood include (1) physical condition must be in good health, physically and mentally, (2) aged 17-60 years, (3) minimum body weight 45 kilograms, (4) body temperature 36, 6-37.5 degrees Celsius (4) blood pressure is at 100-160, (5) pulse is around 50-100 times per minute, (6) hemoglobin level is at least 12 gr/dl for women, and at least 12.5 gr/dl for men.
