Malang, June 26, 2024 – In a leading effort to integrate technology into livestock farming, the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya has held an important coordination meeting with PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia. The meeting was led by Bhinuko, S.Pt., Teaching Farm Manager from Charoen Pokphand, and warmly welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Prof. Halim Natsir.

Also present were Dr. Yuli Frita and Mochamad Tono, S.Kom from the IT team of the Faculty. The meeting focused on the sustainability of laying hen farming at the teaching farm with the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Faculty of Animal Science at UB, having successfully qualified as a smart livestock study program, is now ready to implement AI to enhance efficiency and productivity at the teaching farm.

Several aspects discussed during the meeting include:

  1. Cage control through smart sensors.
  2. Early health problem detection by analyzing chicken signals.
  3. Improvement of feed quality through more accurate nutritional monitoring.
  4. Implementation of an automatic recording system with microcontrollers to manage daily operations more efficiently.

During the discussion, Mr. Jemi Wijaya from Charoen Pokphand emphasized the importance of adapting close house technology from Thailand to Indonesia, a process that requires a decade. He also highlighted the need for more valid data on corn production and suggested collaboration with China for more accurate satellite data.

The meeting also covered discussions on applicable trials that can be implemented on other farms, such as estimating body weight during starter and grower phases, and disease detection through chicken voice analysis. Mochamad Tono, S.Kom added several technology priorities that could be implemented cost-effectively, including ammonia sensors and respiratory frequency monitoring.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold a follow-up meeting on Friday, July 5, 2024, to determine priorities and next steps in the integration of AI at the teaching farm. This initiative is expected not only to enhance productivity but also to serve as a model that can be applied to other farms, providing widespread impact on the livestock industry in Indonesia. mt
