Universitas Brawijaya (UB) lecturers in collaboration with lecturers from the University of Queensland (UQ) and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) took the initiative to form a Nutrigenomic Research Group (RG). Because LIPI and UQ have expertise in accordance with the objectives of establishing RG.
The initiator team consisted of prof. Dr. Ir. Hendrawan Soetanto., M.Rur., Sc (Animal Science Faculty of UB), Asri Nurul Huda, S.Pt., MP., M.Sc (Animal Science Faculty of UB), Poespitasari Hazanah Ndaru, S.Pt., MP (Animal Science Faculty of UB), Siska Aditya, Ph.D (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UB), Dr. Nicholas J. Hudson (UQ), and Dr. Yantyati Widyastuti (LIPI).
The plan was discussed in a virtual meeting through the ZOOM meeting, Monday (8/02/2021). According to Prof. Hendrawan, the formation of this research group, follows the trend of nutrition science and technology in the future which leads to precision nutrition so that it requires assistance with knowledge about genomics.
So with the existence of RG Nutrigenomics, it is hoped that it can open opportunities for international collaborative research between the three institutions. As well as developing research in the field of nutrition and animal feed to lead to nutrigenomic studies.
“Basically, nutrigenomic studies require researchers to work more on the molecular scale, but so far at the Animal Science Faculty of UB, there is still not much work done. This is certainly an opportunity to improve laboratory skills and molecular knowledge for lecturers and students who will later be involved. ” explained Hendrawan (dta)
