UB Lecturers Apply Innovations to Accelerate Beef Cattle Productivity through Feed Formula Application of Five Technologies (ALT)

Lecturers from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) who are members of the Doctor of Service (DM) team conduct outreach and counseling to the Mitra Lembu Perkasa Beef Cattle Partnership (MLP). Consists of Dr. Abdul Manab (Faculty of Animal Science) as chairman, along with member Ria Dewi Andriani, M.Sc. (Faculty of Animal Science), Dr. Premy Puspitawati Rahayu (Faculty of Animal Science), Rachman Hartono, M.P. (Faculty of Agriculture), and Yusron Sugiarto, Ph.D (Faculty of Agricultural Technology). As well as collaborating with undergraduate, masters, and MMD (Students Building Villages) students.

Dr. Manab said that Mitra Lembu Perkasa in Jember and Lumajang Regencies had problems with low quality concentrates. Because the concentrate obtained from CV. Santosindo Multi Farm still uses human power to mix formulas. As a result, the average daily gain (ADG) of cattle is low and affects the economic income of farmers.

“That’s why our DM team at Brawijaya University took the initiative to study this problem and provide a solution to CV. Santosindo Multi Farm and livestock groups, so that both are mutually beneficial.” Manab said

The solution provided is an innovation to accelerate the productivity of beef cattle through a five-technology application feed formula (ALT). Among the ALT feed concentrate formulation training for feed formulators at CV. Santosindo Multi Farm. As for livestock groups, counseling was given regarding ALT concentrates, training and demonstration plots, training on machine usemixing in increasing ALT concentrate production capacity, quality control of concentrate production, and evaluation of success.

The approach method used is throughFocus Group Discussion andBrainstorming to formulate the concept of concentrate feed which is based only on the composition of concentrated nutrients to synchronize the concentrate feed formula for cattle through ALT. There is a series of processes for mixing ALT concentrate feed, namely using a livestock feed mixer machine with a capacity of 1 ton. Its function is to mix several raw materials for making animal feed in the form of flour or in the form of granules into a uniform and homogeneous mixture so as to produce high-quality beef cattle feed concentrate. The results of mixing concentrate feed are then tested by the Animal Feed and Nutrition laboratory at Fapet UB.
