Fapet UB Lecturer Conducts Training on Fiber Source Feed Processing Technology for dairy cows in Pandesari Village, Pujon District

Feed has a role in meeting the nutritional needs of livestock. feed is a very crucial issue in animal husbandry If the needs are not met, it can interfere with the production and reproduction of the livestock itself. Especially the availability of forage if the availability is still not sustainable and the land is still limited. The solution in dealing with this problem is to educate farmers regarding the feed used must be available and sustainable and have nutritional content according to the needs of livestock.

Pandesari Village, Pujon Subdistrict is one of the villages that has a problem, one of which is the lack of land for animal feed so that there are still many farmers who manage livestock, especially dairy cows, traditionally without paying attention to the nutritional content of the feed given to livestock. The feed given is mostly natural grass and njerami rice or corn without treatment so that the nutrients obtained by livestock are only a little so that the milk production produced is also not optimal.

To address this problem, lecturers from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) conducted community service activities in the form of socialization and counseling on the introduction of Fiber Source Feed Processing Technology. The activity, which took place in September – November 2023, was carried out by Prof. Hartutik, Prof. Siti Chuzaemi, Dr. Marjuki, and Dr. Asri Nurul Huda with the target of 40 heads of dairy cattle groups in Pujon District, who will later convey the results of the training to their respective members.

The material presented was in the form of making feed reserves by processing hiajuan or waste to maintain the nutrition and availability of feed that will be given to livestock. This material was delivered by Mr. Marjuki who explained how the process was made and how to reduce the cost of feeding livestock using feed reserves. The material presented was enough to make the dairy cattle group leaders enthusiastic because it can add insight and knowledge about making animal reserve feed. (asr)
