Fapet UB Lecturer and KPSP Setia Kawan Plan to Make Organic Cow’s

Milk Fresh milk as a dairy product is used to meet the animal protein needs of the community. But today, there is a change in a healthy lifestyle by consuming organic food products. This opportunity was used by the Setia Kawan Dairy Farming Cooperative (KPSP) to make organic dairy products.

This means fresh milk that comes from an organic dairy farming system, including organic animal feed, and eliminating the use of antibiotics in its maintenance. To realize the plan, KPSP requires the assistance of experts from upstream to downstream. Starting from planting organic fodder crops, formulating feed and complete feeds for dairy cattle, to managing dairy cattle production and maintenance.

Animal husbandry expert academics from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) are trusted to provide assistance to KPSP Setia Kawan staff and members in order to realize organic milk production. The field of expertise of the lecturers involved in the field of ruminant nutrition, represented by Prof. Hendrawan Soetanto and Prof. Kusmartono. The field of dairy cattle rearing management by Prof. Puguh Sudjarwo, for animal feed by Dr. Hermanto, and the field of molecular plant nutrition and physiology by Rini Dwi Wahyuni, M.Sc.

According to Prof. Hendrawan, the field of expertise of the UB Faculty of Animal Science Lecturer team specifically can provide solutions to solve problems. The problem of preparing feed and feeding management can be solved by providing training on the preparation of concentrate feed according to the needs of livestock at each physiological stage. And practice good feeding management.

While the treatment of mastitis (a disease of the udder) can be done using natural antibiotics. Breeders will be introduced and given assistance in its application. Then for the provision and cultivation of forage, it can be done through socialization, training, and demo plots about the cultivation of animal feed crops and organic planting.

KPSP Setia Kawan is the largest dairy cow cooperative in East Java Province. Located in the west of Mount Bromo with an altitude of 400-2000 meters above sea level.
