Disnakkan Embraces the Dokar Team of Fapet UB Building Rabbit Village in Magetan Regency

Tanjungsari Village Magetan Regency is one of the villages in Panekan Subdistrict where many people keep rabbits as a sideline. The maintenance system is still traditional so that production in the form of puppies and cut rabbits is not optimal.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries (Disnakkan) of Magetan Regency views this as a potential that can be developed into rabbit-based educational tourism. However, there are several problems in maintenance management, which have implications for rabbit productivity. Besides, the high price of concentrate feed is also a development constraint. 

The first step to realize the plan is to build synergy between breeders, village officials, agencies, and academics. Therefore, the Magetan Regency Disnakkan cooperates with Lecturers of the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) to provide insight into the rabbit village as well as intensive training and coaching for the managerial development of rabbit farming.

The lecturers involved come from various fields of science who are members of the Lecturer Berkarya team (Dokar), under the chairman Dr. Ir. Sri Minarti, MP, IPM ASEAN Eng (Production of Various Livestock), and members of Dr. Siti Nurul Kamaliyah (Animal Feed Nutrition), Dr. Dyah Lestari (Livestock Production), Wike Andre Septian, M.Si (Livestock Production), and Puji Akhiroh, M.Sc (Socio-Economic).

According to Dr. Sri Minarti, the problem of low productivity can be overcome by providing counseling, training, and assistance regarding livestock management and the introduction of appropriate technology. Then provide knowledge and insight to farmers about tourism villages by utilizing social media.

Meanwhile the solution to reduce maintenance costs (feed) is carried out through training and making rabbit feed made from local wisdom, which the team has implemented on November 2-3, 2021.

“We hope that after this activity it can encourage the enthusiasm of farmers so that rabbit farming businesses can be improved as their main livelihood. . So that the discourse of the rabbit village destination can be realized, and increase the economic income of farmers.” explained the leader of the Dokar team (dta)
