Lecturer Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, State University of Gorontalo, Fahrul Ilham, S.Pt., M.Sc. conduct research on the character and diversity Gorontalo local goat genotype phenotype. According to him, the local Gorontalo goats are thought to be the result of an undirected cross between the Etawa crossbred goat (PE) imported from outside Gorontalo and the kacang goat which has long inhabited Gorontalo.

“Local Gorontalo goats have adapted for a long time to the geographical environment and culture of local residents so that they have the potential to be regionally unique livestock.” said Fahrul

Answer this research Fahrul do character analysis and phenotypic diversity of local goats based on qualitative characteristics, body weight and body size. As well as analysis of differentiating variables and distribution of phenotypes, including body size, estimating similarity, phenotypic distance, and phylogeny. Whereas for know Genetic diversity requires microsatellite DNA observations, estimating the value of genetic similarity and distance.

Through various research methods that have been done, it can be concluded that The phenotypic characteristics of body weight and body size of local Gorontalo goats are more similar to PE goats compared to kacang goats. While the genetic distance of the microsatellite DNA is closer to the kacang goat than the PE goat. Then the phenotypes of body weight, body size, and microsatellite DNA were indicated to be polymorphic so that selection was possible.

This research led Fahrul to obtain a Doctorate degree after an open presentation with promoters and examiners, Tuesday (11/7/2023). He is a student of the Doctoral Program in Animal Science at the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB). (dta)
