The Doctoral Program in Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) held an open dissertation examination on behalf of Camal Adi Maskur, S.Pt., M.P., Monday (30/1/2023). Located in the seminar room floor 5 Gd. V, the activity took place in a hybrid manner led by the head of the doctoral study program, Prof. Lilik Eka Radiati.
Camal presented the results of his research entitled Analysis of Food Consumption and Household Welfare of Beef Cattle Farmers in Probolinggo Regency. Research conducted with the promoter Prof. M. Nur Ihsan, Prof. Suyadi, and Dr. Suprih Bambang S. aims to calculate and at the same time find out the factors that influence the level of welfare of beef cattle breeders in Probolinggo Regency. As well as analyzing the proportion of expenditure on food consumption.
He chose Probolinggo Regency as the research location with a sample of 88 beef cattle breeders aged 20-65 years. According to him, Probolinggo Regency is one of the regencies in East Java which has the largest beef cattle population after Sumenep and Tuban Regencies. Based on data from the East Java Central Bureau of Statistics (2020), the number of beef cattle there has increased from 2013 to 2019 of 275,764 heads.
The results showed that the proportion of food consumption expenditure to total consumption was 69%, while the proportion of non-food consumption expenditure to total consumption was 31%. Meanwhile, the farmer-breeder-NTPT exchange rate is 112, which means that the welfare of farmers is in the prosperous category. The number of family members has a positive and significant effect on food consumption. Business income has a positive and significant effect on food consumption, then the duration of business has a positive and significant effect on the level of welfare.
