Increasing the productivity of broiler chickens with free-residual naturally based antibiotic, Faculty of Animal Husbandry of University of Brawijaya students succeeded to champion the Sixth Scientific Writing Competition at Student Scientific and Research Week (LKTI Prisma). The team consists of Rufii (2014) and Mifrotul Qomariyah (2015) reviewed a paper titled “An Innovation Based on Moringa Leaf, Turmeric, and Worm Flour to Improve Broiler Chicken Productivity Without Antibiotic Residues”.
Rufii presented that usage of natural materials like moringa leaf and turmeric, could alienate risks like broiler chickens that contain residues when consumed. Recently, the market demand increases thus farmers compete each other to improve productivity by using antibiotic. But unfortunately the common antibiotic contains of harmful chemical ingredients thus producing residual broiler chicken when consumed.
Under the supervision of Eko Nugroho, S.Pt., M.Sc, they use moringa leaf because in addition to contain high protein, the plant also abundant and low price. Meanwhile turmeric addition is used to increase appetite and worm flour is used as anti bacteria or antibiotic which able to kill bacteria in small intestine.
“I’m very excited, this is my first experience to join in a competition and grabbing the first champion is amazing. The gift will we use to join in other Scientific Writing Competitions to hone skills and also increasing experience and insight,” he added.
