The Annual Cattle and Sheep Contest in Situbondo is Lively, one of the judges is from the Faculty of Animal Science, UB

The Department of Animal Husbandry of Situbondo Regency once again held the annual Cattle and Sheep Contest, which took place on May 28-29, 2024. The event was held at the ex-514th Battalion Field in Kotakan Village, Situbondo District, and was attended by hundreds of farmers from various districts in the Situbondo Regency area.

The Head of the Animal Husbandry Department of Situbondo Regency, Drs. H. Achmad Djunaidi, M.Si, stated in his speech that the contest aims to improve the quality of beef cattle and sheep in Situbondo and to encourage healthy competition among farmers. “We hope that through this contest, farmers can be motivated to continuously improve the quality of their livestock, ultimately enhancing their own welfare,” said Achmad Djunaidi.

The livestock contest was divided into various categories and judged by a panel of 5 judges who are livestock contest experts. One of the judges, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kuswati MS. IPM. ASEAN. Eng from the Faculty of Animal Science at Brawijaya University, mentioned that this livestock contest is a celebration for farmers to showcase their best livestock. “With this contest, we hope to inspire farmers to continually produce superior livestock,” she said.

The most exciting category was the extreme beef cattle class. Syamsul Arifin’s cattle from Kapongan District won first place with a weight of 1136 kg, followed by Aji Zakiya’s cattle with a weight of 1121 kg in second place, and Supriyadi’s cattle with a weight of 1104 kg in third place.

The event received a positive response from farmers and the community. With the success of this contest, Situbondo Regency is further establishing itself as one of the regions with excellent potential for beef cattle and sheep farming in Indonesia. (MT)
