Opening of the Field School: Strengthening the Ustan Mandiri Livestock Group and Training in Fattening and Breeding Towards Independence in Beef Cattle Business

On Friday, May 17, 2024, the opening of the Field School took place, aimed at strengthening the Ustan Mandiri livestock group and providing training in beef cattle fattening and breeding. This program is a collaboration between Bank Indonesia and the Faculty of Animal Science at Brawijaya University.

The event was attended by representatives from the Faculty of Animal Science at Brawijaya University (Fapet UB), namely Prof. Trinil, Nanang, and Aulia. Representing Bank Indonesia of East Java Province was Mrs. Tri Setyoningsih, the Assistant Director. Additionally, Mrs. Wiwik Sulistyo, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries of Bojonegoro Regency, attended as a representative from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries of Bojonegoro Regency. The participants of the Field School are the Ustan Mandiri Livestock Group from Dologgede Village, Tambak Rejo Subdistrict, Bojonegoro Regency.

This mentoring program is planned to last for three years, with various activities in the first year, including:

  1. Training on the processing of concentrate feed, practical sessions on making and packaging concentrate, focused group discussions (FGD) on obtaining distribution permits, and cooperative training.
  2. Training on organic fertilizer, practical sessions on making fertilizer, and FGDs on obtaining distribution permits for fertilizer.
  3. Selection and implementation of artificial insemination (AI) in cattle using new technology to increase AI success rates.
  4. Training on beef cattle fattening, biosecurity and disease prevention, practical sessions, and training on recording using applications.

The ultimate goals of this Field School program over the three years are:

  1. Development of a beef cattle cluster within the Ustan Mandiri group.
  2. Establishment of a cooperative.
  3. Construction of a concentrate feed factory.
  4. Development of processed products from feed and organic fertilizer.

This program is expected to have a significant impact on the development of an independent and sustainable beef cattle business in Bojonegoro Regency. (MT)
