Sheep farmers in Jember Regency are eager to receive guidance aimed at improving the productivity of their livestock.

Sheep farmers from Jember Regency visited the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya on December 18, 2023, in an effort to establish cooperation to enhance their skills and knowledge. This visit marks a positive step towards initiating collaboration.

Led by Mr. Syaiful, ten sheep farmers from two villages in Jember Regency visited the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya to express their intention to receive guidance from experts and professors in the field of animal husbandry. The visit was well-received by Prof. Tri Eko Susilorini and Prof. Kuswati from the Livestock Production Interest.

During the visit, the sheep farmers conveyed their desire to advance their livestock businesses. Hailing from Mundurejo and Puger villages, the sheep farmers mentioned that they operate their livestock businesses conventionally, lacking technological touch and comprehensive knowledge.

Prof. Tri Eko Susilorini, affectionately known as Bu Icus, expressed, “We are pleased with your visit and look forward to contributing to the development of the sheep farming sector in Jember Regency. This collaboration will materialize once the farmers’ group is formed, and they will become our partners. This collaboration is our commitment to supporting local farmers in improving the quality of their businesses.”

The sheep farmers responded positively to the prospect of future collaboration, believing that the knowledge gained from the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya will help them enhance the productivity and well-being of their livestock.

Mr. Syaiful expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are very thankful for this opportunity. We hope that this collaboration will continue to progress for the advancement of livestock farming in Jember Regency as a whole.”

Prof. Kuswati added, “We will also strive to involve the Jember Regency Livestock Department directly in providing guidance. The Garahan Technical Implementation Unit (UPT Garahan), which is relatively close to the origin of these sheep farmers, can also be used as a learning venue.”

It is hoped that the collaboration between sheep farmers in Jember Regency and the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya will come to fruition. Through this guidance, local sheep farmers can continue to grow and positively contribute to the economy and food security in the region. (RDW – Dec 2023)
