Lecturers at the Faculty of Animal Sciency, Universitas Brawijaya, carried out community service to cooperative officers and inseminators at the Margomulyo Bantur Cooperative, Malang Regency on Saturday, November 18 2023. The Service Team was chaired by Dr. Aulia Puspita Anugra Yekti, S.Pt, MP, M.Sc, with members Prof. Dr. Ir Nurul Isnaini, MP, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Wahjuningsih, M.Si, Ir. Rizki Prafitri, S.Pt, MA, Ph.D and Dr. Ir. Priyo Sugeng Winarto, MA.
The service material is about evaluating the quality of spermatozoa in frozen semen as an effort to increase the pregnancy success of dairy cows in the Margomulyo cooperative. The training consists of providing material and also direct practice in testing spermatozoa motility. There were 15 training participants consisting of cooperative officers and inseminator officers.
According to Aulia, one of the factors that influences the success of artificial insemination (AI) is the quality of frozen semen. Therefore, it is very important that this quality test is carried out regularly by cooperative officers. This is to ensure that the quality of spermatozoa in frozen semen distributed and carried out by IB in the Margomulyo cooperative area is of good and appropriate quality, so that it can increase the chances of successful pregnancy.
The quality of frozen semen can decrease due to many factors, one of which is improper handling of frozen semen. To be used for AI, frozen semen must have a minimum quality of 40% individual motility and a concentration of 25 million/straw in accordance with Indonesian national standards.
“By carrying out this training, it is hoped that cooperative officers will be able to evaluate the quality of frozen cement regularly and independently,” he concluded (Aul). (AEO)
