The Faculty of Animal Science, Brawijaya University (Fapet UB) increased the number of professors after the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Ir. Tri Eko Susilorini, M.P., IPM., ASEAN Eng as professor in the field of dairy livestock production, Saturday (16/9/2023). Located in the Samantha Krida Building, the inauguration was held by the UB Academic Senate.
Tri Eko delivered a scientific oration entitled Morphobiomol Technology: Efforts to Develop Local Dairy Goats and Increase Milk Production. According to him, until now the population number, milk production and genetic quality of dairy goats have not shown a real increase. So technology is needed to overcome this problem. She created an innovative morphobiomol technology which is a combination of morphology and biomolecules.
“The morphology of an animal can show its characteristic traits, so that it can improve the standard of seeds that will be produced. Meanwhile biomolecular is a technology used to detect livestock at the DNA level.” said Icus (Professor Tri Eko’s nickname)
The combination of these two technologies provides accurate and efficient phenotypic and genotypic information to produce populations with characteristics according to maintenance goals. The advantage is that it can be used as a rapid early selection method for livestock based on marker genes and does not depend on pedigree records. However, it also has weaknesses, because quantitative traits are influenced by many genes, this technology must be able to determine the right gene as a marker.
“I hope that the implementation of morphobiomol technology can be used to develop and increase local dairy goat milk production. As well as creating a village breeding center according to local wisdom.” she concluded (dta)
