Lecturer of Animal Feed and Nutrition, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) visited the agung farmer group located in Dumajah Village, Tanah Merah District, Bangkalan Regency, East Java. The team that is part of the community service group is chaired by Poespitasari Hazanah Ndaru, M.P., whose members are Prof. Kusmartono, Prof. Hendrawan, and Dr. Mashudi.
The visit was in order to review the condition of the farm there. This is because apart from farming, the Agung farmer groups are also active in raising beef cattle. However, they have constraints related to availability both in quality and quantity, especially during the dry season. So that livestock are only given agricultural waste and low-nutrition grass. As a result livestock productivity decreases from an economic perspective causing losses for breeders.
Nana (Poespitasari’s nickname) and the team provided counseling on applicable animal feed management, by applying complete feed technology based on local feed ingredients. However, the nutritional content in the feed can be monitored according to the needs of each livestock.
“We hope that through this community service activity, both quantitative and qualitative feed supply can be sustainable. So that the performance of cattle will increase which will have an impact on the welfare of farmers.” Nana said (tim/dta)
