Swallow cultivation is a quite promising business because it can generate sustainable profits. The superior product of swiftlets is their nest which is rich in amino acids, minerals and antioxidants. So that it can be used as food and beverage products, medicinal ingredients, perfumes, and beauty products.
CV. Wahyu Arta, located in Prigen District, Pasuruan Regency – East Java, is a swiftlet company. However, it has several obstacles in carrying out its operations. Among them the harvest period tends to be lower, because the natural availability of feed has begun to decrease.
Observing this problem, a Lecturer at Brawijaya University took the initiative to assist in intensive swallow cultivation. The team that is part of the Doctor of Service (DM) consists of Prof. M. Halim Natsir (Faculty of Animal Science), Prof. Osfar Sjofjan (Faculty of Animal Science), Yuli Frita Nuningtyas, M.Sc. (Faculty of Animal Science), Adharul Muttaqin, MT. (Faculty of Engineering), and Prof. Hamidah Nayati Utami (Faculty of Agriculture). As well as involving UB Faculty of Animal Science students, namely M. Rhamadani Fadil, Krisnanda Putra Anugrah, Fitria Dwi Kartikawati, Raafi Bella Maretsa Hayyu, and Sandy Saloka Effendi.
Prof. M. Halim Natsir et al offer solutions to overcome the problems faced by CV. Wahyu Arta by providing assistance in developing human resources, making feed from vegetable and fruit waste to produce insects as the main food for swallows, making intensive cages so that birds do not look for food outside, and improving maintenance management.
As the leader of the DM team, Halim hopes that through this activity which will be carried out from March to August 2023, it can assist farmers in intensively cultivating swiftlets. So that it can optimize the harvest of swiftlet nests as well as breeding. (dta)
