Lecturer Faculty of Animal Science Study Program Outside the Main Campus(PSDKU)Universitas Brawijaya Kediri performs community service (pengmas), Sunday (16/7/2023). This activity applies to the group of dairy cattle Makmur Jaya Abadi, Ngaglik Village, Srengat District – Blitar Regency. The team is chaired by professor of Faculty of Animal Husbandry UB expert in dairy management, Prof. Puguh Surjowardojo, consisting of Hanum Muarifah, M.Sc., Zia ul Rahman Fithron, M.B.A., Supriyadi M.P., Rifa’i, M.Pt. As well as involve a support team Danis Setya Nandika and Aditya cahya wardhana.

They carry the theme “Management of Mastitis Prevention”. Prof. Puguh said Before giving birth, dairy cows must go through a dry period, but are susceptible to mastitis. Namely infections caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, mold, and fungi as well as other causes that cause inflammation of the udder and teats of dairy cows.

“Therefore For the prevention of mastitis, putings in lactating dairy cows need to be given sterilization treatment such as teat dipping (nipple immersion) in antibiotic solution post milking ”. Puguh explained

Meanwhile, Hanum Muarifah invited the farming community to maintain the health and cleanliness of dairy cows. Because mastitis can be an expensive dairy cow disease. When cows are infected with mastitis, the milk produced is unfit for consumption and cannot be sold, so that the farmer’s income from milk is non-existent and they even have to pay for mastitis treatment costs.
