UB Student Group Wins General Champion in Essay Competition at Mataram University

The contingent of Universitas Brawijaya (UB)  students won the overall champion  in a national-level  competition  called the Essay Competition at the University of Mataram, Saturday-Sunday (24-25/9/2022).  The award was presented by two teams of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry (Fapet) and one team of the Faculty of Medicine (FK).

Where the group from Fapet contributed the Gold Medal and Bronze Medal in the field of animal husbandry, while the FK team received the Bronze Medal bidang health. Then in the bidang competition between fields the Fapet team got a Silver Medal.

The personnel of the Fapet 1 team consisted of Detry Al Bukhary (chairman) with members Carles Turawan and Gita Aprini. Together with Prof. Osfar Sjofjan as the  supervisor, they carried out a  work entitled “The Concept of a Smart  Controller-Based Sterile Cage as an Effort to Prevent  FMD Transmission in  Dairy Cows.”

According to Detry, the increasing number of FMD cases in Indonesia makes a considerable loss, especially since the FMD virus is epizotic which can be  transmitted through feces, saliva, urine to air. So it is necessary to breakthrough sterile cages based on smart controllers to reduce the   activity of officers in the  cage.  The floor of the stall is designed hollow so that feces and cow urine  do not accumulate on the floor.  Supported by  a smart automatic cage cleaner for automatic sprayers that clean cow feces and urine.

“This cage is also equipped with a disinfectant shower  where every time the officer enters the   feeding cage  will spray automatically so that the  cage will remain in sterile condition. So that it can minimize the risk of fmd transmission,” explained Detry

Meanwhile, the 2 Fapet team raised the title “Implementation of the Ambali Bali Concept with an Agroforestry System Towards Local Community Forests of the Komering Tribe.”  Mentored by Dr.  Agus Susilo, the team consists of Carles Turawan (chairman), Detry Al Bukhary, and Andhani Kurnia Rahman.

The Essay Competition is organized by the Science and Scientific Work Innovation Room (RISKI) community in collaboration with the Regional Research and Innovation Agency of West Nusa Tenggara Province. This national-level scientific essay writing competition is expected to be able to become one of the supporting parts of the development of the quality and quantity of human resources in Indonesia.
