Optimizing the Potential of the Young Generation by Building Entrepreneurial Spirits Through Farm Startup

Workshops The 2022 Farm Startup Workshops are held by the Entrepreneurship-based Student Activity Unit of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), Barisan Orang Sukses (BOS), Sunday (4/9/2022). The event, which was a combination of online and offline, was held at the Auditorium 8th floor of Gd.V, inviting all active students from various universities in East Java.

Daniel Fatihurrahman as Director of BOS said, the purpose of the workshop was to optimize the potential of the younger generation in forming an entrepreneurial spirit. And encourage students to express the idea of ​​a product, especially in the field of animal husbandry.

The resource persons on the occasion were Dr. Dewi Masyitoh, S.Pt. M.Pt (PT. Kembang Joyo) and Drh. Bambang Rudianto (PT. Japfa Comfeed). Dewi explained that a startup is a start-up company that has not been operating for a long time. So it takes several keys to establish a startup, including having a product, not having to be the first to be the best, having the characteristics of other products, looking for investors, getting insight from investors, being humble, always growing, not demeaning other products, generous, dare to start, and take risks.

Meanwhile, the resource person, Bambang Rudianto, emphasized that the consumption of eggs and poultry meat in Indonesia always increases every year. However, this condition creates its own challenges. For example, the price of broiler & broiler eggs tends to fluctuate, the price of sapronak increases, causing an increase in production costs, the low bargaining position of farmers in determining selling prices, relatively long sales chains, demands for increased performance to reduce production costs, and demands for increased exports.

“In running the broiler and layer chicken business, it has a different flow. But basically the flow starts from a breeding farm, broiler or layer farm, and continues with the marketing process.” explained Bambang

 . The activities in broiler, pullet, and layer farm cover three stages. Namely pre-maintenance (land preparation, selection of closed house or open house cages, designing the cost of making cages, infrastructure and other supports) maintenance (preparing of cages, cultivation, production) and post-maintenance (marketing of production and analyzing business performance).
