Fapet Lecturer Prepares a Map of Investment Opportunities in West Nusa Tenggara Province to Realize Indonesia as Beef Self-Sufficiency

As much as 80% of the beef cattle farming system in Indonesia is a community farm with low productivity, simple technology, and ownership of only 2-3 heads per farmer.  So that it is only able to meet 52% of the national beef needs, the rest is met through imports.

On the other hand,  the government has the vision to become self-sufficient in beef by  2026.  Considering that Indonesia has great potential for the development of the beef cattle industry in terms of geographical conditions, population,  natural resources, and biodiversity.

One of the provinces that have the potential to develop beef cattle is West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).  Because it has the capacity and carrying capacity of the land,  the availability of forage feed is still very sufficient, the number of livestock cultivation by each farmer reaches dozens, and the labor force on the ranch is sufficient.

This was revealed by a lecturer at the  Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), Dr. Nanang Febrianto, S.Pt., M.P., in the kick-off event of the  Investment Opportunity Map  (PPI) organized by the  Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) of the Ministry of Investment, Wednesday –  Friday (6-8/7/2022).  Nanang said he and his team will make a feasibility study or feasibility study of the beef cattle business,  in terms of market, economy, targets, constraints, and handling.  Through identification, analysis, observation, and formulating of policy proposals and their implications for the development of investment in strategic priority projects.

“We hope that later the results of the study document on the development of beef cattle farming agribusiness in  NTB Province can encourage investment in priority/strategic projects in Indonesia,” he said.

PPI is an effort to encourage economic growth by attracting interest and making it easier for potential investors to invest in Indonesia.  In the PPI  preparation plan, there are areas of utilization of natural resources and the field of manufacturing industry that will be bargained.  The field of natural resources includes plantations, horticulture,  food crops, fisheries, energy, and animal husbandry.  While the manufacturing industry consists of the chemical industry,  miscellaneous industry,  metal industry,  machinery industry, transportation equipment industry, and electronics industry.  (dta)
