Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) holds summer courses to fill the final holiday of the even semester of FY. 2021/2022. Besides that, to improve student competence, it includes knowledge, technology, and expertise related to animal husbandry in the tropics. As well as providing international experience, opening networks, and increasing self-confidence.
The activity was held together with several universities in Southeast Asia. These include the Faculty of Animal Science, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (FAS-VNUA), School of Agriculture and Aquaculture, Tra Vinh University (SAA-TVU), Faculty of Science and Agricultural Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (FSAT-RMUTL), Thailand, and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
The activities will be carried out for nine weeks starting from July 4, 2022 to August 30, 2022 online through a zoom meeting. However, the meeting every week is only held for two days, namely Monday and Tuesday.
The core participants were 47 students consisting of 12 TVU students, 20 UB students, and 15 VNUA students. As well as some RMUTL and UPM students as listeners without participating in group discussions and presentations.
The summer course was filled with material presentations by all lecturers regarding the conditions, best treatment, prospects, and facing the challenges of animal husbandry in the tropics. The best treatment for beef cattle, dairy cattle, broiler chickens, layer chickens, ducks, and pigs. Then participants were given the opportunity to have group discussions discussing the topics that had been conveyed and sharing culture in their respective countries. The composition of the student discussion groups is mixed from TVU, UB, and VNUA.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of Fapet UB, Prof. Suyadi, Monday (4/7/2022). He hopes that this activity can provide students with insight and knowledge about the world of animal husbandry abroad. As well as improving the ability to speak English as an international language which is indispensable in the world of education and the world of work at this time. (dta)
