Collaborating with Wageningen University and Research Faculty of Animal Science UB Held a Training to Build Dairy Cattle Farming Business in Indonesia

The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) held a training entitled “Training Course on Evaluation and Development of Sustainable Dairy Cattle Production in Indonesia” for three days, Monday – Wednesday (28-30/3/2022). The event was conducted online in collaboration with Wageningen University and Research (WUR), Wageningen, The Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the participants consist of students and lecturers from Fapet UB, lecturers from Vietnam and Thailand Universities, as well as dairy farmers and staff from the dairy industry. Like PT. Nestle, PT. UPBS, and Greenfield.

According to the chief executive, Dr. Marjuki, dairy farming in Indonesia is still far from sustainable and inclusive standards. Because it still has many weaknesses and challenges to create sustainable dairy cattle production systems. So that the role of various parties is needed to increase their role and function knowledge in order to be able to solve the problems faced in order to increase welfare evenly.

“We hope that through this training course , we can increase knowledge and awareness of livestock actors as an effort to build a sustainable dairy farming business in Indonesia.” explained Marjuki

The training materials were delivered by several resource persons from WUR.include Integral sustainability assessment of dairy systems using the DSAT tool (Dr.Ir. Jan van der Lee), Sustainability of smallholder dairy farming in West Java (Dr. Ir. Marion de Vries ), The urgency of sustainable development goals and sustainability and Sustainability of a beef production system on Java (Prof.Dr.Ir.Simon Oosting), Sustainability and the Dutch dairy sector (ing. Jelle Zijlstra), Using DSAT results as starting point for development of sustainable dairy farming (Dr.Ir. Jan van der Lee and Dr Hassan Pishgar Komleh). As well as material from Heru Prabowo (Greenfields Indonesia Dairy) about from manure to grass to milk.

Submission of material is carried out between two to three topics per day, then participants are given a take home. On the following day, participants were given the opportunity to make presentations and hold discussions together to discuss the report on the results of the assignment. (dta)
